Black Leaders & Health Officials Come Together
Last Thursday, Los Angeles Black elected and health officials came together to issue an urgent call to action among those who remain unvaccinated in South LA.
- Data shows that 94 percent of hospitalizations between May 1st and July 17th of this year were individuals who were not fully vaccinated.
- Even more alarming is data showing 94 percent of deaths from April 1st to July 24th were among the unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals.
Vaccinations remain the primary prevention method of contracting the virus. Those who are fully vaccinated reduce the chances of hospitalization and death according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
The Delta Variant
We continue to see an increase in COVID-19 cases due to the highly transmissible Delta variant. By the end of July, it accounted for 93.4 percent of new infections, according to the CDC.
In an effort to encourage South Los Angeles residents to get vaccinated, Community Coalition has hosted the Fulgent Mobile Unit for the last three weeks and will extend this partnership for the next three weeks.
No appointment is necessary and all are welcome to receive a free COVID-19 test and get vaccinated. Fulgent will bring 100 COVID-19 tests and 50 J&J and 50 Pfizer vaccinations. For youth aged 12+ with a parent or guardian present, they can receive their first Pfizer dose and return to receive the second Pfizer dose 21 days later.
