Notario Fraud – Step Forward LA

As you may have seen, there is a lot of immigration-related news coming from various sources today. In order to combat misinformation and false promises regarding potential immigration changes, which can cost victims thousands of dollars, jeopardize their immigration status, and even result in their criminal prosecution, please see  Mayor Garcetti’s “Notario Fraud” webpage at Notario Fraud – Step Forward LA (lacity.org).

This resource page was recently updated to include information on how to identify legal services and notario fraud, how to avoid such fraud, helpful tips, where to find a trusted lawyer or accredited representative in the City of Los Angeles, and where to report immigration legal services fraud. We have made this information available in accessible flyers, in English and Spanish, that you can download and print.

How to Report Hate Crimes and Hate Incidents:

  • Hate incidents can be reported to the LAPD by stopping by a police station, calling 9-1-1, going online to lapdonline.org, or by calling the LAPD tip line at 877-529-3835. All LAPD officers are trained to take hate crime and hate incident reports.

You can also report to the County Human Relations Commission by calling 211 or going to their website at  LA County’s 2-1-1, or to community groups such as Stop AAPI Hate. Victims who report a hate incident to LA County’s 2-1-1 have the option of being followed up with by a Care Coordinator to refer victims to relevant support resources.
